Nonprofit Organization Management - Willis, Texas, United States
The purpose of our Bionutrient Food Donation Program is to produce and distribute organically-grown produce and pastured meat and eggs that are bionutrient rich to local food banks. Our goal is to provide sustainably-farmed, organic, non-GMO, heirloom produce and meat and eggs from heritage breeds to individuals and families in need to combat food insecurity and nutrient-deficiency in our community. Forgotten Farms Heritage Livestock Breed Conservation Program is focused on preserving and promoting rare breeds by educating the public about heritage livestock breeds and locating and establishing production herds of heritage breed livestock that meet the breed standards to maintain their rare biodiversity providing valuable options for the future of farming. Our Heirloom Seed Preservation and Heritage Horticulture Program aims to protect these old cultivars from extinction. Forgotten Farms is focused on preserving and promoting heirloom plants by educating the public about heritage species, locating and establishing production lines of heirloom varieties, and saving seeds to maintain their unique biodiversity, providing valuable options for the future of food. The Agroecological Farming Program, Forgotten Farms Network, is committed to sustaining rural livelihoods and environments by integrating research and education with locally-informed planning for development. Partnering with other local organizations, we'll promote food security in our communities, promote local control over food production, and empower others resulting in strong women and youth, vibrant food economies, better nutrition, food justice, and healthy families through participatory action and education, working to create a more just, equitable, and cooperative food system.
