Nonprofit Organization Management - Jacksonville, Florida, United States
Each year in Florida, thousands of pounds of fruits, vegetables and nuts are discarded for a variety of reasons, some of them as simple as blemishes or overproduction. We recover this nutritious produce and deliver free of charge to local organizations that serve the poor and hungry. Many communities use citrus trees as landscaping, which creates a "forgotten" crop of tangerines, oranges, lemons and grapefruit each year. The goal of the Forgotten Fruit is to rescue this produce and distribute it throughout Florida. Some of the recipients that benefit from this are inner city school kids, low-income seniors, area food pantries and even individuals found in city parks. Our desire is to fill a void in their diet and spread some love and encouragement when possible.
