Forsyth Jail and Prison Ministries uses Christ's love and forgiveness to transform lives and break the cycle of crime and punishment. In 1977, the Forsyth Jail and Prison Ministries began with volunteers from a local Yokefellow Prison Ministry chapter and the Community Advisory Board of the Forsyth Correctional Center.Under the leadership of Dr. W.K. McGee, Dr. David Hedgley, and Dr. David Burr, Forsyth Jail and Prison Ministries hired Rev. W.T. Hendrix as the first full-time chaplain supported solely by churches and individuals in North Carolina. In 1987, the Forsyth Jail and Prison Ministries moved into a newly constructed chapel located at the Forsyth Correctional Center. The Chapel was dedicated to Dr. McGee and Dr. Hedgley in honor of their vision and commitment to this ministry. The Chapel serves as a bridge between outside community volunteers and inmates at the Forsyth Correction Center.Today we provide Christian programs monthly to over 1100 men and women in the jail, prison and youth detention center in Forsyth County.
