The National Foster Youth Action Network ("Action Network") was founded in 2007 with a mission to build leadership capacity and skills in foster youth around the country so that they can educate policymakers about their unique needs and collaborate with them to improve state and federal foster care services. The training and coaching the Action Network provides creates personal change that increases the ability of this historically marginalized population to transition successfully to adulthood while also building a national foster youth-led grassroots movement for child welfare systems reform, which will benefit the 468,000 foster youth in the United States, of whom 60% are youth of color and 100% are poor or low-income.
