Foundation for International Training (FIT) is a capacity building organization based in Toronto, Canada. We work to assist governments, civil society and the private sector build institutions, knowledge and skills to meet the challenges of eradicating extreme poverty. For the past 40 years FIT has established a solid reputation for innovation in development practice and effective management and implementation of multi-year, multi-million dollar projects in more than 50 countries. FIT has worked in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Middle East through programs financed by a number of institutions including the Global Affairs Canada, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and United Nations agencies and developing countries governments themselves. This experience has enabled FIT to cultivate solid expertise in all aspects of capacity development that is applied in a wide range of sectors. FIT has assisted governments and civil society organizations improve systems of governance by: strengthening mechanisms that protect the most vulnerable; introducing proven approaches such as social accountability and active citizenship; and managing collaborative studies that inform policy formulation. We have built capacities among vibrant institutions that contribute to sustainable economic growth by combining business know-how and understanding of social issues. These projects and programs have resulted in positive change in a wide range of areas including public sector management and governance, employment creation, micro and small enterprise development, gender equality, strengthening civil society and citizen engagement, occupational health and safety, environmental management, health, and community education.
