The Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka (FPA) was established in the year 1953 and celebrated its 60th Anniversary last year (2013). It is registered as a Non-Governmental Organisation under Voluntary Social Services Organisation Registration & Supervision Act No 31, 1980 as amended by Act No 8 of 1998 (Charity Registration No–L13807). FPA is an accredited member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and operates island wide and functions under five key areas known as 5A's: Adolescents, AIDS/HIV, Advocacy, Abortions and Access. Its head office is in Colombo and has 6 Service Delivery Points (SDPs).FPA being the pioneer in reproductive health and education has completed many successful projects including research projects with special emphasis on SRH issues (behaviour and practices) as well as needs and rights of Most at Risk Populations (MARP). Some key research projects completed include: European Union Project for SRH-HIV Integration in Sri Lanka (On going), Political Mapping of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in Sri Lanka: The Situation in Southern, Uva, and Eastern Provinces (2011); Rapid Assessment of Sexual and Reproductive Health and HIV Linkages In Sri Lanka (2011). FPA has vast experience in managing large scale projects with a range of partners which varies from Government, private sector, academia (Universities including National and International), National and International NGOs and Donor Agencies.Over the years, FPA though its Social Marketing Programme has been providing a range of services in the field of Sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and is the market leader in providing access to safe, effective and reliable contraceptives with a wider choice of high quality products to the Sri Lankan public over the last 5 decades at an affordable price, manufactured by reputed International manufacturers and exceeds all IPPF standards.
