Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors exists to be an instillation of hope by providing resources, understanding and support to the bereaved by suicide. When activated by the Coroner's office the trained LOSS volunteers go immediately to those who have lost someone to support them. Grief resources, community referrals, biohazard clean up referrals, hotel discounts and dozens of other resources are shared. Just as importantly, LOSS holds a hand and listens. The majority of the LOSS volunteers are survivors of a suicide loss themselves. Sitting with someone who has a similar lived experience and is able to serve as a volunteer plants much needed seeds of hope for the newly bereaved. In addition to first responder work, LOSS also stays connected with survivors over the weeks, months and years to come. There is no "getting over" this death. LOSS understands the importance of integrating this loss into a survivor's life. LOSS offers a Companion Program where a trained volunteer with a similar loss can spend time with another survivor over lunch or coffee. LOSS offers Support Groups and Remembrance Events where survivors can gather to hear a presentation, create a craft, or participate in small group discussions.LOSS also provides training throughout the community on suicide prevention, serving the bereaved by suicide, and suicide grief workshops. Please contact LOSS at 614-530-8064 for additional information or to schedule a presentation.
