What does the future of engineering look like? Fraunhofer IEM in Paderborn works on convincing solutions to this question, covering the business idea, implementation, and market success stages in the process. Through it all, the focus is on intelligent products, production systems, services, and software applications. Scientists take an interdisciplinary approach to working on new methods, tools, and processes – and use innovative technologies to ensure the long-term competitiveness of customers and partners.In cooperation with Paderborn University's Heinz Nixdorf Institute Fraunhofer IEM has been shaping the research location that is Paderborn since 2011. As part of the »it's OWL« technology network it is a long-standing partner of the industry in the Ostwestfalen-Lippe region. With its approximately 200 employees, Fraunhofer IEM is managed by a three-member board of directors: Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Ansgar Trächtler (Institute Director), Prof. Dr. Eric Bodden, and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Roman Dumitrescu. In 2019, research budget amounted to around 13 million euros.
