Hi! We're Team 1540, the Flaming Chickens—a high school robotics team in Portland, OR.For 15 years, we've created 160–pound aluminum wheeled robots in 6-week sprints to compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) at regional and international tournaments with 7000+ other teams worldwide. Our robots are designed, manufactured, and programmed entirely by students (adults don't get to touch anything!)Throughout the program, students:• Design full CAD models of our robots using Fusion 360• Machine all our parts in-house, using CNC machines, 3D printers, and other tools.• Create technical & executive summaries and give presentations to apply for awards• Write our robot's onboard code to perform tasks autonomously & under driver control• Develop apps & services to make our team more efficient and make a difference in our community• Make some really cool things !!Beyond building robots, students develop skills to:• Direct projects & manage teams in a real-world setting• Work under student managers & hands-off adult mentors• Demonstrate responsibility and commitment (up to 40 hours/week)• Persevere in problem solving when there isn't an obvious ideal solutionTeam 1540 has a history of high achievement. For 13 out of the past 14 years, we have qualified for World Championships to compete against the top teams in the world. We've ranked #1 at all of our district events in the past 2 years, and #7 at World's in 2019. We've also won numerous awards at the regional and global level for quality, design, and innovation. Running a robotics team is no small economic feat. As such, we rely on contributions from community members like you!
