Frederick Toastmasters is a club that is part of a worldwide network of clubs organized under Toastmasters International. We provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater self-confidence and personal growth. We also have a lot of fun! Our club meets on the first and third (and fifth) Thursdays each month from 6:30 PM to 8:10 PM. Our regular meeting location is a classroom at the Frederick County Association of Realtors at 478 Prospect Blvd. in Frederick, Maryland. During the pandemic, we are meeting virtually, using Zoom. Guests are always welcome. (Please see our webpage for additional meeting details.) Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational organization with clubs in more than 145 countries. Since 1924, Toastmasters International has helped people from diverse backgrounds become more confident speakers, communicators, and leaders. The Toastmasters educational program is self-paced, and provides opportunities for club members to pursue activities in both public speaking and leadership. When you join Toastmasters, you select a "path" for educational focus. The path you select determines the activities you will perform to achieve educational objectives. Every path begins with the "Ice Breaker" speech, which simply requires you to have the courage to speak in front of your club, talking about yourself for 4 to 6 minutes. Each successive project builds on the previous, adding a new set of skills each time. Many projects include speeches, but not all do. Topics for speeches can vary widely. Speeches are generally given at regular club meetings, with club members providing feedback in a respectful and supportive manner.
