Rewind to 2002 and WiFi was an exciting prospect. Free and open hotspots were popping up everywhere - finally a way to get broadband on the move! But what happened since?WiFi out and about has become an expensive way to get online. 24 hours WiFi usage can cost as much as your home broadband for a month! Somewhere WiFi lost its way. Freerunner takes WiFi back to basics. No more hunting for open access points and no more breaking out the credit card. Totally free and fast access to the Internet when you are on the move. It was a great idea in 2002, we just made it greater.Freerunner works a little differently. Firstly we believe fast Internet acess is something everybody should have. So whilst we put hotspots in big brand locations, our regional development funding also allows us to put WiFi in places perhaps it has not been available before. Schools, community centres, small business and outside of city centres. Everybody needs access to the Internet and the digital divide should not stop them!Secondly we are open and transparent in how we operate. That goes from how we do business through to the technology we use. We are dedicated to using Open Source technology and have a truly distributed network architecture - just like the Internet really. Its the way WiFi and the Internet should be.We operate our network in two ways - the ones we own and the ones we franchise. Today Freerunner operates its own network in the UK, Netherlands and South Africa. Our franchise model allows you to start a WiFi network in your country with minimal investment. We look after configuring and shipping you equipment, running the network and provide you with wholesale and advertising revenues.Franchised territories include Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia.
