Freedom Reads will bring curated 500-book literary Freedom Library to 1,000 prisons and juvenile detention centers to each state in the United States, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. The project offers books as both a resource and a symbol of freedom, restoring hope, dignity, meaning, and purpose to those incarcerated. Freedom Reads was conceptualized by poet and legal scholar Reginald Dwayne Betts YLS '16, who will also serve as its Director. This project was made possible through a generous gift from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
