Freespace technology employs a proprietary process that uses a high-strength carbon-fiber reinforced thermoplastic filament that is placed optimally and continuously using a multi-axis multi-head printer system that allows the machine to produce continuous fiber structures in any direction. The design aspect of the Freespace system features innovations that could change substantially how components are manufactured. The design process for this system starts in a standard structural optimization software package. The available working volume plus performance parameters are the only inputs. The result of the optimisation process is then is fed into our proprietary “feedback loop” software that iteratively calculates part optimization vs. possible physical fiber placement to make the part manufacturable while maintaining a desired level of structural optimisation. Once this feedback loop process is complete, the 3-D printing process begins.
