Government Administration - Tingalpa, Queensland, Australia
French Australian Brisbane School Ltd (FABS) is a not-for-profit entity incorporated in 2013 with the purpose to support the establishment of schools in Brisbane taught in both French and English. In 2014, after 3 years of discussions between the Queensland Government, the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE), the Embassy of France to Australia and the French Community of Brisbane, a Memorandum of Understanding was established between the State of Queensland (represented by the Department of Education), FABS and the Embassy of France to Australia. In 2015, Tingalpa State School (TSS) introduced a French-Australian bilingual program. The initiative began with one Prep class in 2015 and expanded to include Prep to Year 3 the following year. In 2017, the Tingalpa's French-Australian bilingual program achieved AEFE accreditation from Prep to Y3. In 2019, the first bilingual cohort of Y6 has been successfully graduated from TSS.Today, Tingalpa's French-Australian bilingual program has reached its maximum capacity with one class per year level (up to Y4).However, it's more than 50 Prep students who have applied to join the program in 2021 and everyday new students are denied access to the bilingual program because of the lack of places available. To support all the families desperately seeking French-Australian bilingual education for their children, FABS has reopened discussions with the Australian authorities on one hand and with the French ones on the other hand. FABS' aim is to find a solution to this issue as soon as possible.
