Fresh Start Science was formed to help single mothers who are disadvantaged develop self-esteem and motivation to get out of poverty, create a positive life for herself and her child, and become a net social contributor. What is new and different in our approach is that we start with DNA analysis of how her heredity contributes to and is part of her normal, everyday life. Everything a person is today is the combination of nature AND nurture. If you understand your nature, you have more powerful and workable options in your nurture - your environment. The key to our approach is non-judgmental coaching that lets each participant figure out and develop the best life plan that meets her and her child's needs.Think of it this way. Each gene in our body is a tiny brick. Imagine having a pile of bricks delivered to your house, without any insight into how to use them. This is how most genetic work is delivered. Now imagine a coach who asks "what do you want to build?", and then says "I'll coach you on how to build what makes sense to you. I won't build it for you. I won't tell you what to build. It's your building."The final piece is that once she is motivated and action oriented, we will break down the barriers to help her find a job and education, get access to resources to be a great parent, and facilitate transitions into the mainstream. We will track her progress to make sure she is fulfilling her end of the bargain, because her success will generate additional successes.
