High School Parkis an 11 acre natural oasis in the heart of Elkins Park, PA.The Friends of High School Parka nonprofit community organization, is dedicated to restoring and managing the native ecosystem of High School Park for the enjoyment of the community in cooperation with Cheltenham Township.FHSP has transformed this once neglected site of the former high school into an award-winning place of natural beauty. Since 1995, we have dug in hundreds of native plants, and ensured their survival by digging out invasive weeds.A 10 Year Ecological Master Plan has been created to guide the organization as they continue to enhance this green space. Knowledgeable staff and volunteers of all ages are preserving it for the future. Trails, native plants, and wildlife make it a lovely place to walk, explore and relax in three diverse natural environments:• A thriving meadow of black-eyed Susan's, butterfly weed, native grasses and wildflowers• A Woodlands filled with creeping Phlox, Winterberry, Viburnum, fragrant and berry-laden bushes and trees• A stream bank ecosystem complete with river birch and sycamoreLocated at High School Road and Montgomery Avenue, the park is easily accessible by bike, foot or train.
