Friends of Keewatin is the popular name for the RJ and Diane Peterson Keewatin Foundation, a registered Canadian charity dedicated to the preservation and operation of S.S. Keewatin as a unique global historical artifact (the world's last Edwardian-era UK-built passenger steamship) Canadian historical artifact (contributed to Confederation by fulfilling the promise made to Alberta and Saskatchewan to expand the west by delivering immigrants to the west and grain to the east) and local historical artifact (Port McNicoll once had a population of 7000+, housed Canada's second largest grain elevator, was home to the world' longest elevated wooden trestle, and was dubbed as "Chicago of the North" and "Gateway to the West"). The story of her survival as a "museum ship" is remarkable. The story of her repatriation is dramatic, and has been captured in the documentary BRING HER ON HOME
