The vision of Fruitgro Science is to provide a sustainable, top class research service to benefit all South African deciduous fruit growers. To achieve this vision Fruitgro Science seeks to have output-focussed R&D programmes which are driven by strategic needs, and directly geared at meeting the needs of its key clients – the growers.There is a critical need to maintain and build research capacity into the future. In order to address this need Fruitgro Science is developing long-term alliance relationships with research organisations that are aligned with its objectives. These alliances will be built around four broad research programmes: cultivar development, crop production, crop protection, and fruit quality and product enhancement. Fruitgro Science places great emphasis on technology transfer by making use of the expertise within the alliance partners, thereby endeavouring to increase the uptake of new technologies that are developed through research.
