The Football Association of Montenegro was founded on 8 March 1931 in Cetinje under the name Cetinje Football Subassociation, being a regional association of the Football Association of Yugoslavia. In addition to the Cetinje Football Subassociation, there were 10 more subassociations with their headquarters in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Zrenjanin, Subotica (SER), Zagreb, Split, Osijek (CRO), Sarajevo (BiH), Skoplje (MAK) and Ljubljana (SLO). Professor Nikola Latković was the first president of the Cetinje Football Subassociation (MNE).There were 105 football clubs registered at the territory of the current Montenegro until 1941, many of which did not exist for a long time, being easily founded but soon shut down. From 1925, when the first competitions were initiated (until 1930 within the Split Football Subassiciation and from 1931 within the Cetinje Football Subassociation), the following clubs became champions: Balšić (Podgorica), Crnogorac (Cetinje), Lovćen (Cetinje), Budućnost (Podgorica) and Arsenal (Tivat).After World War II, the Football Board was founded within the Physical – Sports Board of Montenegro on 5th August 1945, and in 1946, the first championship of Montenegro was organized including the four participating teams – Budućnost, Lovćen, Sutjeska and Arsenal. The Football Board was transformed into the Football Association of Montenegro at the founding assembly held on 6th December 1948 in Titograd. The Football Association of Montenegro (FSCG) operated as a part of the Football Associations of SFRY, FRY and SM from then until 28th June 2006, when it became an independent football organization. After requesting admission into international football organizations on 30th June 2006, FSCG became a full UEFA member at the Congress held in Dusseldorf on 26th January 2007 and FIFA member at the Congress held in Zurich on 29th May 2007.
