Media Production - Lisbon, Lisbon, Portugal
Fumaça is an independent, progressive and dissident journalism project that takes an in-depth investigative approach to relevant issues in our society. Fumaça was founded in June 2016 by a group of volunteers as a non-profit journalism project, focused on human rights, covering topics such as racism, police brutality, immigration rights, climate change, and others. Our goal was never to tell people "what happened", but rather explain "why it happened", to go deep on the most important issues of our society, and to give ourselves the time to investigate, to inquire, to scrutinize. In 2018, we received a 100k grant from Open Society Foundation and a few members of the team are working professionally on the project since then. Something that describes us well is the fact that at Fumaça, we believe in the power of giving voice to the people, and that is why most of what we do is audio: podcast, audio-stories, audio-documentaries.
