Primary/secondary Education - Valencia, Valencian Community, Spain
Fundació Escola Valenciana is a civic organisation whose main objectives are the linguistic normalisation of the language in all areas of use and the promotion and dissemination of Valencian culture. Escola Valenciana began its activity in the field of education in 1984 with the aim of promoting the creation of an educational system with Valencian as its vehicular language. With this in mind, the "Trobades d'Escoles en Valencià" meetings were born, entertaining and demanding festivals that have become the most echoing project of the organisation. Every spring more than 200,000 people gather in 19 language festivals held throughout Valencia. The entity supports a proposal for a multilingual educational system based on teaching in Valencian, to ensure the linguistic competence of students in the two official languages and in a third language such as English. It has undertaken strategies to provide schools with advice in this area and has developed models of language projects for schools that want to guarantee Valencian students the teaching programmes that have proved to be the best. Likewise, Escola Valenciana continues to work on the normalisation of the other areas of the language social use. Arts, Valencian Volunteering, Didactic materials, Sustainability and Participative democracy are the pillars of the Valencian School seen as a global entity, which has been and is a constant and constructive pressure group for the social, educational and political life of the Valencian Country.
