Fundación Botiquín is a non-profit organization. Botiquín, which means First-Aid Kit in Spanish, works to improve the health standards of public hospitals in the Dominican Republic by providing basic medical resources, awareness, and medical test aid. Botiquín's donations are invested directly into medical facilities rather than to the patients. By improving facilities we hope to provide a more comfortable stay for patients and to support health care professionals in their work and development. When we visited public hospitals we realized the extent to which poverty and scarcity hinders facilities. The main mission is to bridge the gap between public and private hospitals by providing material that will help avoid putting patients at greater risk of infections and illness. Therefore, we are trying to create a better environment for patients and doctors.
