Electronic flight bags (EFB) for aviation have been developed over the past decade. Pilot adoption of various incarnations of EFBs for General Aviation (GA) has been slow and limited by traditionally high price points associated with aviation hardware and software, high management burden, and limited scope of functionality with respect to all phases of flight. Recently, the Apple iPad combined with the ForeFlight application has revolutionized the EFB market. The iPad/Foreflight combination significantly reduces the cost of both software and hardware while supporting all phases of flight (from preflight briefing, to filing flight plans, to in flight situational awareness and charting). It offers and an enriched GAP experience that not only enhances situational awareness and flight safety but does so in a single high quality highly responsive tablet solution – the iPad.
