1949 saw the American family Bernard GANT launch its first clothing collection under the GANT brand in the USA.In 1999, the brand was acquired by Lennart Björk, Staffan Wittmark and Klas Käll, who were the three individuals holding the rights to sell GANT products on the Swedish market. Since then, GANT has been operating as a Swedish company which runs and develops an international lifestyle brand with roots in the American east coast.GANT designs, markets and sells lifestyle products in the form of men's, women's and children's clothing and accessories through internal and independent master franchisors. Watches, home furnishings, underwear, footwear, sunglasses and mobile phone accessories are also manufactured by licensees under the GANT brand. GANT was listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange on 28 March 2006. In 2008, the company was acquired by the Swiss firm Maus Frères International S.A. Maus Frères, which also owns Lacoste.
