Fund-raising - Garden City, New York, United States
The Garden City Scholarship Fund is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to the students of Garden City High School. Each year, we award thousands of dollars in scholarships and awards to exceptional GCHS students. The Garden City Scholarship Fund (GCSF) was formed in 1998 to assume the activities of the PTA Student Loan Fund. For over 60 years, the organization has helped bridge the financial gap for college bound Garden City High School graduates. In 1996 the fund was increased by a sizable bequest from the estate of Julia Maloney, a former Stewart School teacher in the Garden City district. In June 1998, the first Julia Maloney Scholarship was awarded. Selection criteria for this scholarship includes: academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, an essay and an interview. The scholarship winner receives $3000 annually for four years. In addition to the Julia Maloney Scholarship, the organization presents scholarships each year to an "Unsung Hero" from the senior class as well as Student Club Awards to students that demonstrate exemplary service to the school in their participation in school clubs and organizations.GCSF is not funded by the Garden City School District and relies exclusively on community fundraising and endowments. Our directors are volunteers who work throughout the year for the good of the community.
