Garfagnana Rugby has been the first agonistic rugby team of Garfagnana's area. It has been founded in 2009 by a group of friends. In 2010 the team participated to its first regional tournament, ending the season with no matches won, but the society was very proud of the close-knit group built.The 2011's tournament was luckier, the Garfagnana Rugby ended it with 6 matches won and a proud 6th position out of 9. In 2012 the team participated in its 3rd regional tournament and built up big projects creating its own youth team. The under 12's team got the occasion to take the field and play against the same aged Lunigiana Rugby's team in their first friendly match on December 2012. In 2013 the U12 participated in its first regional tournament. In the meanwhile, the Juniores team (under 18) took shape and began by winning its first friendly match against the Montecarlo's Juniores. In 2014 also the U14 and the U16's team were born. Due to too many strains within the society itself, The Garfagnana Rugby team broke up at the end of 2014. Today the main rugby team of the Garfagnana's area is the Grande Selva Rugby founded by some passionate ex-members of the Garfagnana's Rugby society.
