GastroIntestinal Endoscopy (also known as GIE) is a group of six specialist Gastroenterologists. Since 1985, GastroIntestinal Endoscopy has been providing an efficient 'Open Access' service for colonoscopy and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. With the 'Open Access' or direct referral system, the patient is referred by the patient's GP or specialist for a procedure without consultation with a Gastroenterologist. The patient must be generally healthy and between the ages of 16-85 years to access this system. Patients have rapid access to a procedure, usually within 1-2 weeks and urgent cases can be seen sooner. No consultation fee is charged. The following are the procedures provided by GastroIntestinal Endoscopy using this Open Access referral system:ColonoscopyUpper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy or GastroscopyPolypectomyOur Gastroenterologists perform other endoscopic procedures such as ERCP, endoscopic ultrasound, stenting, treatment of varices and more, but they are not performed on an Open Access basis. These procedures require a private consultation and discussion with the Gastroenterologist prior to the procedure and are therefore not offered as part of the Open Access service.
