GENASSIST™, Incorporated (created by Hildegarde S. Wexler in 1983) this privately woman owned biotech and life sciences genetics company, was created like so many companies...out of necessity. Prior to GENASSIST™, the number of patients who had access to genetic information was severely limited. In addition, test results took weeks to return so that the information that the patient received was not timely. Depending upon the family history or disease(s) involved, genetic consultation outside of GENASSIST can often take months or even years.The GENASSIST Concept is a service designed to assist the patient, family and healthcare provider to research, record and review a family history for inherited conditions. The results of The GENASSIST Profile will indicate whether or not the patient is a candidate for further genetic evaluation.The GENASSIST Linear Profile is a screening tool for the patient, family and healthcare provider to allow a patient to make informed decisions about risk of inherited diseases, risk to the family of inherited diseases and the development of a medical management plan following genetic consultation.The GENASSIST Linear Profile was conceived and developed by Paul Wexler, M.D.. Dr. Wexler presently is a Clinical Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and Clinical Professor in the Division of Genetics/The Department of Pediatrics at The University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and The Children's Hospital of Denver. Dr. Wexler has been the Medical Director of GENASSIST™ since 1983.
