The General Prosecutor is the head of the General Prosecutor's Office and is responsible for the work of the Prosecution and the prosecution offices at the courts of general jurisdiction of the first instance and the appellate court.The Prosecutor General is elected by three-fifths of the members of the Assembly, among the three candidates proposed by the High Council of the Prosecution, for a 7-year term and without the right of reappointment. The General Prosecutor is appointed in accordance with Article 148 / a of the Constitution.The Attorney General represents the prosecution in the High Court and cases in the Constitutional Court, unless represented by the Special Prosecution. The Prosecutor General issues general instructions to prosecutors of general jurisdiction prosecutors and Judicial Police officers and oversees their implementation, reports to the Assembly on the crime situation in the country, asks the High Inspector of Justice to conduct thematic inspections or investigations into individual violations, administers the interception system and exercises other powers according to article 38 of Law no. 97/2016 "On the organization and functioning of the prosecution in the Republic of Albania".The General Prosecutor's Office has jurisdiction over the entire territory of the Republic of Albania and is headquartered in Tirana.The General Prosecutor's Office prosecutes and represents the prosecution in court on behalf of the state. The Prosecution Office operates within the judicial system based on the Constitution of the Republic of Albania, and the Organic Law no. 97/2016 "On the organization and functioning of the Prosecution Office in the Republic of Albania".The Prosecution is an independent body that guarantees the smooth running, control of its actions and respects the internal independence of prosecutors for investigation and prosecution, according to law.
