For more than a decade, Learning Plunge, Inc. (a non-profit organization) or its predecessor, in conjunction with the D.C. Public School System and many other organizations, have held GeoPlunge tournaments twice a year, based on the multi-award winning, strategy-laden, geography game called GeoPlunge. What is GeoPlunge GeoPlunge creatively combines critical thinking, substantive learning, and fun in a unique way. A GeoPlunge set consists of five decks of geography-related cards that can be used in countless different games. GeoPlunge Tournaments Five different GeoPlunge games are played during the semi-annual Washington, D.C. GeoPlunge tournaments, which involve hundreds of third through eighth grade students playing in teams against other schools. The excitement in the room during these competitions is palpable. Who Plays GeoPlunge Outside of the tournaments, the easiest games can be played by children as young as 5. Adults, however, often love playing the most strategic GeoPlunge games as much as the children do. Why was GeoPlunge Developed To teach children about the United States in a unique and exciting way, and to provide them with the motivation to learn about our country. Of equal importance, GeoPlunge also was designed to enhance students' critical thinking, teamwork, social skills, and self-esteem. From what we have heard from parents, students, teachers and business partners, it has worked extremely well. As one parent noted, it is the only educational game that her son still doesn't realize is, in fact, an educational game (and yet he and her have both expanded their knowledge a ton just by playing).
