Gerard Taylor is the founder of London based Gerard Taylor Design Studio and the Creative Director at Orangebox.He studied Product Design at the Glasgow School of Art and Industrial Design at the Royal College of Art, London, where he received a Masters in 1981. Following graduation, Taylor was hired by the influential and pre-eminent Italian designer, Ettore Sottsass, and joined his design studio in Milan, where he worked with many renowned brands including Knoll, Artemide, Fiorucci, Espirit and Phillips. Taylor was also invited to participate with Memphis, a collective of international designers, who not only established Italy's reputation as a centre of design excellence, but also went on to dominate the international design scene during the 1980s. Many of Taylor's pieces from this time have become coveted and are held in several museum collections. On his return to London, Taylor established his own design studio with Daniel Wiel and worked with many high profile companies including Esprit, for whom they designed stores throughout Australia, as well as French Connection, Channel 4, BBC, Anthologie Quartet and Alessi until Weil left to become Professor of Industrial Design at the RCA and subsequently a partner at Pentagram.In addition to his retail work, Gerard Taylor also specialised in contemporary workspace design and undertook major office furniture projects for Knoll, Steelcase, Bernhardt, Sony and the Skandinavisk group.The last six years has seen Taylor increasingly concentrate on his role as creative director at Orangebox, www.orangebox.com, the UK's most progressive, innovative and successful office furniture company.
