The European-Canadian Centre for Innovation and Research (ECCIR; formerly German-Canadian Centre for Innovation and Research - GGCCIR) is an initiative for the development of European–Canadian research and business relations. Based in Edmonton, Alberta, the ECCIR provides support for the exchange of information, development of networks, the establishment and cultivation of collaborative partnerships in academia, business, and industry, as well as cultural exchange. The central focus is on enhancing international knowledge and technology transfer, and on raising the profile of Canada and Europe as centres of excellence in innovation and research.With its Alberta-Europe Technology Collaboration Fund, the ECCIR offers a unique opportunity for Albertan small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to receive funding and assistance in building alliances with industry players in Europe. The goal is to help participants become more globally competitive and to foster increased international trade, revolutionary product development, commercialization and economic growth.As a member of the IraSME network, a network of European ministries and funding agencies that are owners or managers of national and regional funding programs for cooperative research and development projects, the ECCIR regularly participates in both annual IraSME calls for propsals to support joint, innovative R&D projects.Furthermore, as a member of the Enterprise Europe Network, the world's largest support network for SMEs with innovative and international ambitions and over 400 member organisations across Europe, the ECCIR supports businesses in:- Identifying and promoting business, R&D and joint venture opportunities in Canada and the EU,- Accessing information on funding opportunities,- Finding business opportunities and partners in Canadian/European markets, understanding Canadian/EU legislation, and providing practical information on how to do business within Canada/Europe, etc.
