Our Company\\My story begins in 1996. We had just moved to the Monterey Peninsula and my husband's aunt and uncle came for a visit. For dessert, they bought an apple pie at the market, expecting only the best but I commented, "I think I can make a better pie then this!" A few days went by while I gave it some thought. My husband Peter encouraged me to follow my passion so I baked an apple pie. He took to the local grocery store to see if there was some interest. It was a hit. My family rallied together in support while I started baking pies from scratch out of our kitchen at home and my husband delivered them fresh every day.\\When coming up with the name for the bakery, the family wanted to honor Peter's mother, who was the matriarch of the family and my mentor in the kitchen. Josephine always called me Gianna, Joanna in Italian. This was the beginning of Gianna's Baking Company!\\After renting a room in an existing bakery and expanding our selection, the news quickly spread about our handmade baked goods and soon other grocery stores were calling. The family expanded distribution into the Bay Area and now you can find us in grocery stores throughout the Western United States and British Columbia.
