Entertainment - Venice, Veneto, Italy
Promoted by the filmmakers and screenwriters' associations ANAC and 100autori, chaired by Andrea Purgatori and directed by Gaia Furrer (Artistic Director) with Giorgio Gosetti (General Delegate and founder), Giornate degli Autori was created in 2004 as a film showcase and independent sidebar of the Venice Film Festival, modeled on the prestigious Directors' Fortnight at Cannes. The aim of the showcase is to turn the spotlight on quality films while placing no restrictions whatsoever, with an emphasis on innovation, experimentation, originality, and independence, from concept to production: a festival-in-a-festival that reignites the thrill of discovery for audiences, critics, and the industry alike. Giornate degli Autori is an all-around cultural endeavor, what with its attention to Italy's film heritage (100+1: one hundred films and a country, Italy), women's creativity (Miu Miu Women's Tales), the repeat screenings from its program arranged in Italy and abroad, its encouragement of Italy's rising film talent, and its long-standing collaboration with the European Parliament (the 27 Times Cinema project).
