Alvin B Glen \A native of Dorchester, South Carolina, I began drawing at an early age, drawing for teachers and friends, and was always at the top of my class. I aspired to attend South Carolina State University to study music and become my high schools' band director. While registering at the college I noticed the sign Visual Arts. After a short inquiry I changed my major to visual art with an education minor. \ I never intended to teach. The education minor was supposed to be a safety net. After seeing the glow of success on the face of students after they have had an ah- ha moment during a lesson, locked me into education. Graduating from South Carolina State University, I became a certified Art instructor, was voted teacher of the year, and continue to teach art, now in my 34th year.\I began exhibiting in galleries and festivals and became a regular exhibitor in the Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor exhibit. I am an exhibiting member of the Charleston Artist Guild. My work is now in numerous private and public collections. I began working using mixed-media; (pencils, fabric dyes and spray paints) then moved to pastels and at times combine them with watercolor, dye and pencils. \I'm mostly inspired by children and the elderly. I sometimes create works reminiscent of people and events from my past, church school and even my students.\\I have exhibited, competed and placed in juried exhibits. My work has been chosen to hang in corporate as well as residential spaces.\I am currently exhibiting at the; Charleston Artist Guild Gallery160 Eastbay Street in Charleston, SC.
