Global Library of Scientific Images is the result of many conversations with Cardiology fellows and Medicine residents for over a decade. We frequently encountered images of scientific and academic value that were not accompanied by sufficient information to constitute a case report and we were frustrated by the lack of a journal or website that would accept these smaller units of valuable information. I observed that students, residents and fellows who were pursuing placement in competitive programs were unable to demonstrate their expertise and to receive academic credit for these less labor intensive and more focused projects that would provide useful information to the scientific community. Additionally, we discussed the fact that the process of lecture preparation was often slowed by the presence of many websites, difficult searches and the need to verify the accuracy of the statements that accompanied some images.Simultaneously, experienced physicians who deal with large numbers of complex medical images expressed a desire to share these images with colleagues, demonstrate their expertise and participate in medical education. They needed a streamlined process that would allow a busy practitioner to quickly and easily submit images during the course of a workday.Global Library of Scientific Images was founded in 2017 as a solution to these problems and demands. Scientists from multiple disciplines now have a venue for the publication of images of value for which little additional information or details may be available and for the rapid sharing of images encountered during daily practice. The result is a collection of images depicting both the normal and abnormal, including common and rarely encountered conditions with their many variations. This spectrum of image complexity enables learners at all levels to advance their knowledge of a myriad of topics.
