VISIONResponsible forest and wood-based industry supply chains are a positive impact upon trade, the environment and society.MISSIONGlobal Timber Forum (GTF) builds the capability and capacity of forest and wood-based associations to engage micro and SME members on responsible trade.AIMS 1. To provide a trusted forum for national associations and relevant stakeholders to convene 2. To undertake research into the views and capabilities of forest and wood-based associations3. To analyse and share relevant sectoral trade flow and market data 4. To undertake direct training and capacity building for associations so they can build their SME members responsible trade capabilities5. To support wider recognition of verifiable developments in responsible trade The GTF Theory of Change therefore is: If a trusted mechanism can increase the knowledge and skills of the SME forest and wood-based sector to trade responsibly, then illegal logging and associated deforestation will be abated more effectively, and the livelihoods of forest dependent communities will be improved. The private sector is not one single entity, there are many actors from forest workers, logging operations through processing, manufacturing to agents, timber traders, merchants and retailers. GTF does not have members so therefore seeks to build a network through alliances and coalitions of the different actors that ensure open and balanced dialogues as well as devising activities that address national and international responsible trade issues and concerns. GTF has the support of over 130 associations globally.
