God's Warehouse Details
God's Warehouse is based in Pietermaritzburg and provides families throughout South Africa with food, clothing, support and assistance navigating the labyrinth of the legal system. We are a registered non-profit organisation and our reach is not limited to Pietermaritzburg as we help families throughout South Africa. \\God's Warehouse does not have government funding and relies on donations and community support.\ \Our mission is to stop single, divorced and widowed mothers (solo moms) from sliding through the cracks and becoming another poverty statistic. We also collect donations of used and new clothing, toys and household items for the families we support. What can't be distributed is spruced up and sold to generate funds for God's Warehouse. \\We also work to assist women in leaving abusive partners and provides support as they heal and try to move on with their lives.\ \One of the most important characteristics about God's Warehouse is that we are not a charity which gives hand outs, we provide a hand up. The women we help have to commit to helping themselves as well. The reason for this is that it is impossible to for a woman's situation to improve unless she is willing to put in the effort as well.\\God's Warehouse was started in 2010 by Debbie Schroeder who still runs it today. We are staffed by a team of dedicated volunteers, although we are in the process of sourcing funding to employ staff. Currently, every cent we raise is spent on helping our 130+ families.
