Health, Wellness & Fitness - San Francisco, California, United States
The company was founded in early 2012 as "Optimized Athlete" by Olympic athlete and World Record Holder Sky Christopherson to support the US women's cycling team prior to the 2012 Olympic Games. The underfunded team had become America's hope for a cycling medal when the Lance Armstrong drug scandal, termed 'The Greatest Fraud in American Sports', resulted in unexpected withdrawals of top U.S. men's professional cyclists due to performance enhancing drug use.To attempt a new model of drug-free training prior to the 2012 Olympic Games, over a dozen thought leaders in fields of sport, medicine, and technology were assembled into a think-tank 'Dream Team'. OAthlete developed the first software platform to utilize a consumer digital health and wireless sensor ecosystem for Olympic training that included sleep data, nutrition data (including the first use of continuous blood sugar tracking) genetics, environment, psychology, and other physiology. The underdog women's team would go on to shock the world with a Silver Medal win in London. Their Olympic journey and inception of OAthlete is the subject of a feature-length documentary film called 'Personal Gold' (2016) acquired by Netflix and distributed world-wide.Now Personal GOLD, Inc, it is expanding it's technology ecosystem to develop software products for broader applications in health and fitness markets, starting with 'The Gold App' led by a world-class management, marketing, and advisory team. The company will continue work with Olympic athletes under it's USA2024 initiative to inform product development and provide inpirational marketing narratives. This ethos serves the vision of helping individuals to reach their potential using Data not Drugs®
