In July 2007, the company received a license awarded to companies performing work and providing services relating to the nuclear fuel cycle, giving it the right to handle nuclear material as part of the exploration, extraction, processing and storage of uranium ore. October 2007 saw changes in the roster of UMC shareholders; the sole shareholder was now Atompredmetzoloto (ARMZ) — appointed by "Rosatom" as the nodal organization managing all assets relating to uranium production, including assets located in Kazakhstan. As a subsidiary of Atompredmetzoloto, UMC participates as a shareholder in joint Kazakh-Russian ventures.
