Gracious Grounds provides supported, independent housing opportunities to 45 individuals with what we describe as "unique abilities," or what you might recognize as being developmental and intellectual disabilities. When Gracious Grounds was founded in 2013, it operated as a single home. Today, three homes support more than 45 people. This growth has been carefully and strategically planned to ensure that our mission remains at the forefront. Our community members have the opportunity to live in an inclusive environment along-side their peers, with the assistance and availability of a Resident Assistant offering support, security, and most importantly…community. We operate with the philosophy of supportive residential living that enables people with disabilities to live a semi-independent lifestyle. We look beyond what others might perceive to be limitations to create an affordable, friendly, and resident centered environment. This attitude includes empowering residents to seek employment, take advantage of community social opportunities, and constantly seek new opportunities to live full and varied lives. Connecting with our community is vital to ensuring that our residents are treated with the respect, dignity, equality, safety, and security accorded to other members of our society. The supportive housing provided by Gracious Grounds is essential in allowing the segment of the population it serves to live a meaningful life full of purpose, while still having the ability to learn, develop, and grow through the path provided by their ability to hold onto a certain level of independence. Independent Living for those with unique abilities is not only attainable, but should be a part of a thriving society.
