Civic & Social Organization - Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, India
Gramin Shiksha Kendra is an initiative to challenge and alter the status-quo of the public education ecosystem through an active participation of the community. The organization is implementing the following projects in Sawai Madhopur and Tonk districts of Rajasthan (India).1. Uday Community Schools: The Uday Community Schools initiative has over the years presented a new idea of education. As a fish bowl within the community, each school has allowed the communities to observe, learn and build their understanding on education.2. Vistaar: Emerging from the work at the Uday Schools is the Vistaar (to Spread) programme. Through a combination of initiatives undertaken with the community, parents, children who have dropped out or are irregular, government teachers and the school management committees, we help implement the two way change process of encouraging community to demand and the schools system to deliver.3. STEAM Initiative: By setting up a STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics) laboratory, we aim to bring change in the pedagogical aspect of school education system.4. Tarang (Early Childhood Education): The project aims to establish the significance of Early Childhood Education through an active community participation. In 2015, GSK Uday Schools were recognised as Change-maker Schools by the Ashoka Foundation.
