The Grand Rapids Police department is a full-service agency serving Grand Rapids, Michigan. Currently, approximately 300 sworn police officers fulfill the duties of law enforcement for the city. Additionally, 109 dedicated professional support staff perform various functions for the police department. Our police officers, college interns, and volunteers answer over 100,000 calls for service per year. The GRPD is a para-military organization with the ranks of Chief, Deputy Chief, Captain, Lieutenant, Sergeant, and Officer. Our current chief, Eric Payne, is the 15th Chief of Police in the history of the organization. We offer many teams and units to specialize, including the Detective Unit, Traffic Unit, Special Response Team, Vice Unit, Community Engagement Unit, K-9 Team, a Mounted Unit, and much more.
