Performing Arts - New York, New York, United States
For several years, Jon Kohen performed as a solo songwriter in Lowell, Massachusetts. In 2015 together with longtime friend – and accomplished violinist - Lilly Innella, and a studio ensemble of fourteen string players, Jon created the EP Curse the Darkness, or Create a Light. Inspired by the power of the work and collaboration, Kohen, together with four members of the string ensemble, formed under the new stage name Granite to Glass in essence with their newfound direction. Granite to Glass toured the east coast, and performed at various venues in the New England area for about a year. In 2016, with composer Derek Weagle, Granite to Glass created a record written for full orchestra and choir. The album "For When You Need This" was released on March 10th, 2017, and features over 50 musicians from the University of Massachusetts Lowell and New England Conservatory. The album was performed live with these musicians for its release in the Fisher Recital Hall of UMass Lowell. Now based in Brooklyn, Granite to Glass performs in the Greater New York City area with the newly-formed NYC-based string quartet, and continues to write haunting, intimate, and arresting music with an immersive and cinematic touch. The group aims to envelop each audience with a sense of delicate, and positive introspection with which to heal and reflect.
