Retail - Lagos, Lagos, Nigeria
2 years ago, one of our founders met a woman in a local town known as Ode-Omu, in Osun State, who had recently buried tonnes of plantain in her farmland after they got bad. Like that woman, many local farmers cannot get their produce to the right market. This has discouraged many farmers from continuing to plant at a reasonable scale. On the other hand, we find a shortage of supply of farm-fresh food in states such as Lagos which consumes by far more food than any other state according to the recently published Consumption Expenditure Pattern by the National Bureau of Statistics. What Granja Foods does is to provide a flexible solution that supports local farmers on one end and delivers fresh food to households in major cities on the other end.We are excited about our work and our short-term goal is to partner with 500 farmers in our first two years. We are working with partners and investors to make this a reality. What this means is that every purchase on Granja Foods is a way of encouraging farmers to keep doing the great work that they do.
