Insurance - Alesund, Møre og Romsdal, Norway
Møretrygd is a mutual insurance company with head office in Ålesund. The company was originally founded in 1871 as Aalesunds og Moldes Gjensidige Skibsassuranceforening, a marine mutual serving the fishing fleet in and around Ålesund. The non-marine part of the company was founded in 1866 as Volda Branntrygdelag. Møretrygd is the result of a number of mergers through the past years. The last mergers were between Nordvest Sjøforsikring Gjensidig and Møretrygd Gjensidig Sjøtrygdelag in 2002 and with the non-marine mutual VBforsikring in 2008. The merger with VBforsikring was a part of Møretrygd's strategy of diversification into non-marine insurance. In 2010 Møretrygd merged with SGS (Sjøtrygdgruppen Mutual Insurance Company), the former reinsurance vehicle of the Norwegian coastal mutuals. This will have little effect on the company's operation, as SGS was in run off with no "live" insurance policies at the time of the merger. Annual gross premiums add up to approximately NOK 135 million (2012) and the equity is NOK 280 million.
