Fund-raising - Commerce City, Colorado, United States
Grant Writing 4 Good is an idea I came up with when I was looking for something to supplement my Social Security benefits. I retired in 2016 from 18 years of technical writing and 24 years of analytical chemistry. Both occupations taught me skills that give me a significant advantage as a grant writer. Process analysis, research, organization, writing to your audience, telling a story, connecting dots between narrative and numbers.Creative writing also contributes. I have published six poetry books, have written newsletters for professional and non-profit organizations, written ad copy, written essays, and short stories. Writing a successful grant proposal is writing your story, or the story of your organization, or the story of your project. Grant requests have to get the reviewer's attention and appeal to them, and be remembered well. I learned about grant writing when I got to join the Commerce city Cultural council. i volunteered to be on the Grant & Sponsorship Committee. I was then given a grant to write and a grant to contribute to as an editor. Both those grants were funded, and I repeated that experience the following year. I then enrolled in local nonprofit classes and a grant writing class. It was a perfect fit for me. And I don't have to go to a job.Grant Writing 4 Good is me. It's an opportunity for me to give back, while earning a modest living.
