Grassfuel is a young Dutch cleantech company established in 2009, focussed on thermo-chemical processing of wet biomass into renewable fuels, while regaining valuable substances from the processed materials. Grassfuel is developing and applying new and innovative technologies for the processing of different types of biomass that currently cannot be processed economically. Important part of the Grassfuel concept is the regaining of important mineral nutrients such as phosphate. Other elements present in the raw material can also be used as an input for other industries, e.g. grass proteins for animal feed and fibers for the paper industry. The remaining low moisture biomass can be co-fired in coal- or biomass powerplants. Revenues are generated by gate-fees for thye incoming biomass, nutrient sales, biomass sales and sale of carbon credits (VERs).Grassfuel has established Partnerships with the large owners of biomass in The Netherlands, Rijkswaterstaat (Directorate General of Public Works and Water Management), Staatsbosbeheer and Natuurmonumenten. Grassfuel is planning to establish a demonstration plant in Q1/2011together with its strategic Partners / investors to demonstrate the capabilities of its technology applied on wet biomass products like nature reserve biomass, manure, and road side grass.
