Farming - , ,
Most among the small-holders in sub-Saharan Africa, people who live in remote areas, who do not speak any of the main languages, who farm in soils that are increasingly drying up, and are at the receiving end of changes in the seasons and of rainfall are simply abandoning their lands. GRASSROOTS AFRICA (GRA) is a wide cooperative effort that aims to provide these marginalised farmers with practical, down-to-earth advice on how to improve their agriculture. We are working together with others who feel the same way as us, people who have relevant experience of tropical agriculture, of planting, drying, storing, nurturing relevant produce and staple foods to answer questions from farmers. If you can help, please do. If you are a former volunteer who worked overseas, or know someone who has worked in agriculture in East Africa, if you are in touch with a project in a rural part of Malawi, Tanzania, Uganda or neighbouring countries, join us. Some 350 million people are facing the direst of consequences if they are not given a hand in accessing the right information. Sometime the best advice will come from someone who lives in the next village, sometime she will be based a thousand miles away. See our website for more information - www.grassrootsafrica.org
