For over 40 years downtown residents have not had a readily accessible grocery and this has become their most requested service. Even though the demand seems clear, no private business has been willing to locate in the downtown. Cooperatives are usually formed to provide a group of people with a service that is not available through private enterprise and, at the same time, allows that group of people to build and operate the service in whatever manner will best meet the needs of their members.
